Bailiff's Diary: Week 18
w/e 31st July 2009

The weather was unsettled yet again, this week though mainly sunny with highs of 30 degrees on Tuesday, the wind was blowing one way or the other, most of the action seemed to be at nights. Good amount of 20’s and 30’s though not so many real big fish caught (or feeding) in this weather, it seems, Stringers and pop-ups producing, large beds of bait are not recommended, however topping up your swims after each fish can soon see you use up to 20 -30kg of bait. Speaking of bait as I’m only glancing through the catch report forms it seems like almost everybody again this week is on Cell or the Active-8.

At present (fri morning) there have only been 4 x 50lbs reported, so lads if you had a 50lber after the catch reports or your cameras were downloaded, please E mail your catch report or photos to carrie@dreamlakes.com. Cheers!!

I’ll start this week on Lakes 3 -4 -5.

Rael's Brace 48lb & 43lb Common DL3
Rael's Brace 48lb & 43lb Common DL3

Zen’s son Rael was over for the week with 2 no-shows on Lake 3, meant Rael could fish there for the week, he had to be near the lodge bailiff (Paul) as he had a dodgy knee and couldn’t kneel down.

Rael had a few fish during the week 24, when he filled out his catch report however that day and night he took the total up to 35 carp for the week with a load of 30’s and 5 x 40’s all fell to the Cell boilies, Rael used over 20kg for the week, but used only single bait stringers to fish with.

Everyone bar 1 had a 40 on Lake 3.

Jake Milam peg 13 had a haul of 6 fish with 30’s up to 39lbs and a 46lb common on the Cell or Active-8.

Carl Chambers next door in 14, also had 6 out all over 30’s, a 37lb mirror and 38lb common and likewise 2 x 40’s also a common and a mirror, all on the Cell.

Chris Hemmings peg 3 best for the week a 44lb mirror on the Active-8.

Ian Ruddock Peg 4 likewise Ian’s best was a rather large common of 53lbs which again fell victim to the Cell.

Richard Moss 42lb Mirror DL3

Rich Moss peg 6 had 8 out with fish up to 42lbs on the Cell.

Over on Lake 4, there were only 2 lads on the Lake Martin Page >>> had a total of 24 fish (by Thurs) with a sprinkling of 30’s plus 3 x 40’s and a couple of 50lb+ cats rounded of the week.

Carl Slaymaker had 21 fish with the best a mirror of 44lb-14ozs on the Cell - Active-8.

Lake 5
Darren Colborn
peg 1 also had a dozen fish topped by a 40lb mirror on the Cell – Active-8 Combo!

Mick Frost >>> deserves a mention just for managing to land 100lb + cat I want to see the photo of you holding that mate!!

Mark Jeffery pegs 4-6 had a dozen fish, topped by a 50lb-15ozs mirror, again on the Cell.

Over now to the lads on Lake 1. Peter Verrinder >>> “West Point” was top gun with a catch of 20 fish, taken on the Cell.

Young Simon Verrinder >>> in “3 Steps” had a dozen out with a P.B common of 37lb-15ozs plus a few cats as well, using 10kg of Cell or Active-8.

Harry Turner 46lb 7oz Common DL1
Harry Turner 46lb 7oz Common DL1

Bruno Rizzo on the Beach had a haul of 18 fish for the week, no real monsters though, the weeds coming up in a few areas and its crawling with life.

Harry Turner “Slope” took an even dozen for the week with carp up to 39lb-10ozs mirrors to 35lbs and a 46lb-7ozs common to round of the trip, Harry used just 3½kgs of the Cell, Harry also had a few problems with the weed.

Davey Jones (not him the other one without the Locker) “Herbies Hole”, winkled out the odd few 2 x 40’s the biggest a 42lb common and a 42lb mirror taken on Shellfish B5.

George King “Pads” did well for a lad fishing the pads he is only 13 years old this swim usually needs a bit of a cast to the point, so to land 6 carp was good work, all on Cell and Active-8.

Harry King next door in “Ladies Lair” also had 6 out on the Cell – Active-8 combo!

Andy Knights >>> “Sunset” had 7 out on the Cell and Active-8.

Quickly now on to Lake 2

Luke Miller swim 13 had a total of 10 carp using 20kg of D.L.Specials pineapple and the Cell.

Matt Irvine peg 3 had 18 carp on the Cell.

Kevin Jackson peg 9 took a total of 20 fish on the Cell and a 40lb grassie.

Dean >>> and Jane Colenso pegs 21 and 23 both had hauls of 15 fish apiece; however Jane had the biggest a 44lb-2oz mirror, now we know who wears the trousers, all their fish fell to Proline boilies.

Gareth Flemming peg 26 caught 10 fish the best one of those big grassies this one went 51lb-4ozs, all taken using 20kgs of the Cell.

Got to go now, I have got to drag some of that weed out of the edge of Lake 1.

Matt.

Bailiff's Diary: Week 17
w/e 24th July 2009

The weather was a lot better this week and it fished a lot better as well!! 25-28 degrees all week, the odd spot of rain, not like last week with the thunder storms, when the guys didn’t want to touch their rods, with the bolts of lightning. 14-18 degrees at night do make it a little hard to sleep, it's too muggy, but when the carp are feeding and that’s what we want after all, 9 fish over 50lbs, the best a 66lber, which by the way does not seem to be the 68lber, that’s the trouble with them all being commons, “is there 4 or 5 60’s in Lake 3?”, in just 8 acres, not bad hey!!

It was my week off last week so I haven’t got any tips or angles as to what method or tactics seemed to work better this week. Plus Oryst left early on Friday eve and took the catch reports home, so there’s a few which haven’t been handed back in, in time, so Friday night would have produced a few more fish too. If you had a 50 we don’t know about on Friday let the office know for the 50+club, “Roll of Honour” which is now up to 92, that’s just about half way through this season, we did a 100 in all of last season, it gets better and better!!

John Morgan 43lb Common DL1
John Morgan 43lb Common DL1

Lake 1 “Top Bombin” award goes to John Morgan in the “Snags” who took a tally of 25 carp during the week up to 43lbs all fell victim to the Cell or Dreamlake Specials.

Mark Simpson in the “Three Steps” had 7 fish inc. 2x40’s, but Mark hasn’t actually mentioned the weights of his fish. However, I do know he was using the D.L.Specials and some of the Cell, 20kg in fact.

Wayne Morgan in the “Slope” managed to winkle out 15 fish, and also the biggest for Lake 1 this week a fine 53lb-8oz mirror, all caught on the D.L.Specials, Tigernut flavour I believe!!

Chris Harvey “The Lodge” had this weeks unlucky 13 with carp up to 39lb-8ozs on the Active-8 or Cell.

Cliff Harvey “Unknown” had 8 out up to 47lb-8ozs a common all on the Active-8.

Kev Mills in “Ladies Lair” had 19 for the week on bait called The Goodness, well that's what’s written on his catch report!!

Simon Allen “West Point” had a total for the trip of 14 fish, half of which were over 30lbs up to 37lbs mirror on the Cell.

Reg Mills “Sunset” had 7 the best a 47lb-15oz common on Active-8.

Steve Grantham “West Bar” had a catch of 22 carp with fish up to 41lbs on The Goodness bait as well.

Glen Harey “Haven” had 6 up to 43lbs-8ozs on the Active-8.

Harry Butterworth had a catch of 10 fish on the Cell inc. 2x40’s a mirror of 41lb-4ozs and a common of 41lbs-8ozs on the Cell.

Kevin Bowles in the “Pads” had a fine time ending the session on a total of 22 carp with a few close to the 40lb mark, 39lbs common and mirrors, then a common of 44lb-12ozs, then a fine brace of 50’s both commons of 51lb and 51lbs-8ozs really did finish Kev’s holiday, no need to ask again a mix of Cell or Active-8 was the killer bait.

Got carried away there on 1 better flick through the others now Lake 2 for instance.

Kevin Bowles 51lb 8oz Common DL1

Paul Lowe 54lb 2oz Common DL2

Paul Lowe in 7 had 14 fish, a few 30’s a 40 of 48lb-8ozs, then just as it couldn’t get any better he had a 54lb common on the Cell.

Nick Lowe peg 6 had 11 out on the Active-8.

Derrick Collins in 11 had 11 on the Active-8.

Chris Prager >>> peg 19 had a haul of 21 fish, with carp up to 45lbs-10zs on the Cell-Active-8 combo.

Dave Prager peg 20, had a total catch for the trip of 19 carp with is best a 43lb common on the Cell and Active-8.

Now down to Lakes 3-4-5, Sid was the Bailiff on these lakes all of the lads done well with a fair scattering of 40’s too.

John Cruse >>> pegs 3, 4 and 15, he got about a bit, but the effort was well rewarded by the capture of a monster 66lb-8oz common on the Active-8.

On Lake 3 "Top Rod" Adam Bowyer peg 8, had a catch total of 21 a 43lb-2oz mirror, topped by 52lb-4oz common on the Cell.

Brian Norris peg 11, best for the week an impressive 53lb common on the Cell.

Jamie Horsgood peg 16 had 11 fish, to 39lbs a 36lb grassie and 41lb-8oz mirror on the Cell.

Duncan Dorrell >>> with unlucky 13, topped however by two nice 40lbers a 40lb mirror and a common of 42lbs-8ozs on Club Mix baits.

Lake 4, James Riley >>> peg 3, had 22 fish for the week inc. 2x40’s a mirror of 41lbs and a common of 43lbs.

Chris Cove had 6 and Shaun Lindsay an even dozen (12) on the Cell.

Lastly Lake 5, Gary Hasson >>> peg 1, had 19 fish inc. 3 x 40lb carp all mirrors, and an 80lb cat on the D.L.Specials.

Chris Cove 36lb Mirror DL4

John Painter 51lb Mirror DL5

John Painter peg 2 had 17 fish with 2 x 40’s again both mirrors on the D.L.Specials.

Sam Lincoln >>> peg 6, had 6 but the best was a mirror of 51lbs-8ozs, big enough to get Sam onto the “Roll of Honor”, again the successful bait was the Dream Lake Specials.

More hot news next issue, Matt.

Just had an E Mail from John Painter on Lake 5, he caught a 51lb late on Friday, so that’s another one for the “Roll of Honour” well done mate, and thanks for letting me know. Cheers Zen.

Bailiff's Diary: Week 16
w/e 16th July 2009

Weather wise it was a funny old week, it started off overcast and warm 20-22 degrees for the first half of the week, then on Wednesday the sun started to shine and the temperature went up to 28 degrees, that’s when Lake 3 started to pick up a bit.

What ever happened with the weather certainly seemed to affect the fish this week! For some strange reason although there were lots of fish caught, there was a distinct lack of baggie’s, only one 50 (that’s strange for a start) the lack of 40’s and 30’s, what ever slowed up the bigger fish’s appetites meant the smaller carp were in for a chance for a change.
Putting together these catch reports it never ceases to amaze me how these weather changes impact on the fishing from week to week, and even season to season.

In general it was a bit of a slow start, 3 in particular. 4 & 5 did well all week so did Lakes 1 & 2, despite the no show of bigger carp on Lakes 1 & 2 it seemed that using longer hairs this week did make a difference, with the chopped boilie's in bag's and the ground up baits in the stick mix’s was doing the bizz again, a few lads did well it seems using a bit of bait 20-30kgs in some cases.

Neil Munneke 37lb Common DL1
Neil Munneke 37lb Common DL1

Lake 1 fished reasonably well considering.
Neil Munneke in ‘’West Point’’ was Top Rod with a 27 carp total, 15x20’s, 5x30’s and the best fish of 43lb 14ozs all taken on Nash Maple Squid baits.

Danny Burns >>> in ‘’The Slope’’ who had a total of 24 fish 18x20’s, 4x30’s and a 42lb common. Danny used 25kg of MainLine’s Fusion boilies.

Tony Burns next door in the ‘’Snags’’ had a total of 14 fish including 2x40’s 1 a mirror the other a common. Tony used just 10kg of The Cell.

Jimm Corr in the ‘’3 Steps’’ took a total of 17 fish on Scopex squid.

Mark Weaver ‘’Gables’’ had a total of unlucky 13 fish on a mix of The Cell and Scopex Boilies.

Ron Harrison 41lb Common DL1
Ron Harrison 41lb Common DL1

Ronnie Harrison ‘’Pads’’ had 14 fish including 10x30’s on Trigger Ice.

John Leyland >>> in the ‘’Ladies Lair’’ also took a total of 14 fish for the week again on the Trigger Ice.

Colin Moore next door in the ‘’Sun Set’’ also on the Trigger Ice had a total of 10 carp up to 40lbs a common in fact, shame the bigger fish kept their heads down!!

Paul Pells ‘’Cherries’’ had a total of 16 carp for the week on the Squid.

Lake 2 This weeks ‘Top Bombin’ goes to another one of the Mannings, Paul Manning this time with a haul of 51 carp to end the week with an arm ache! Included in Paul’s catch, peg 28, was a brace of 40’s of 42lbs and 48lbs 12ozs.

It's Dave Manning Jnr who currently holds a record for Lake 2 with a catch of 99 carp this year, 95 carp last year his due back shortly on Lake 3 hoping for one of the 60’s no doubt (probably all of them knowing Dave).

Dave’s dad Dave (it’s getting confusing) was next door in the end peg, peg 30, Dave Snr took a respectable total of 36 fish, and a nigh on 40lb Grass Carp, both used 30kg each of Premier Bait’s boilies.

Matty Wass peg 16, had a haul of 41 carp upto 40lb + on the Premier as well.

Robert Kelly >>> peg 26 had a catch totaling 27 fish, I hope I've got these the right way round, with his best a 44lb Mirror on Vortex baits.

Fred Keeble peg 15 had 19 carp for the week on the good old Active-8.

Dick Halsey >>> peg 22 had unlucky 13, but luckily had one of the few better fish of 47lb 8ozs on The Cell.

Ian Forrest peg 17 took his total for the week to a respectable 25 carp haul, with fish upto 42lbs.

Dave Tonner peg 18, had 19 fish in total including a 40lb Grass Carp, not many of the Grassies caught this week either.

Sorry lads must move on to 3, 4 & 5. Lake 3 suffered more than most in the conditions + sadly 2 lads missed the ferry if we can fit them in later we will try!

Top Rod Colin Balchin pegs 14 & 8 had a total of 17 fish, 30’s up to 39lbs and 3x40’s all commons, of 42lb, 43lbs and 44lbs all taken on the Active-8.

Graham Eccles >>> peg 6 took 12 carp inc a common of 45lbs on Active-8.

Steve Hosack peg 2 had 7 including a 40lb Mirror again on the Active-8.

Lake 4 Peter Shields peg 1 had 24 carp upto 41lbs on Active-8 or Fusion.

Steve Shield’s peg 2 took a total of 12 carp inc 2 chunky 40’s a common of 44lb’s and a Mirror of 45lb’s again on The Cell, Pulse combo.

Top Gun on Lake 5 this week was Mick Fisher with a haul of 19 carp inc 2x40’s both Mirrors of 42lbs and 41lbs on the Active-8 or Cell.

Gordon Brown, (not him!!!) the other one, had just an even dozen 12 on the Active-8, Cell.

Ian Watkins had 9 out including the only 50 from the whole venue this week, a 52lb Mirror.

Just one 50 all week goes to show how iffy it was.

Cheers lads, Matt.

Bailiff's Diary: Week 15
w/e 10th July 2009

The weather this week was unsettled again still warm, with some rainy spells; the temps averaged 18-20 degrees during the day and a muggy 12-14 degrees at night.

There is still a lot of competition, with the carp still feeding on the fry, and the clouds of daphnia, lighter baiting patterns are now recommended, with quite a few fish falling to the hi-viz pop-up / boilie combinations, but fished as single hookbaits, hate to say it, but ‘’chucking and chancing it’’ with just a bag of chops or crumbled boilies in a ‘stick’.
Everyone caught, a great bunch of lads yet again, despite the weather; we had a really pleasant time.

Thanks guys for filling in the catch report forms, there’s still a day & night to go so if anyone gets a 50 last night could they let the office know for the Roll of Honour.

Andy Gage 51lb Common DL1
Andy Gage 51lb Common DL1

I'll start on Lake 1, Andrew Gage the Snags, did the best this week, his 14 fish haul was topped by a big common of 51lbs on plum shellfish boilies.

Lee Simms in West Bar, ended the week with a total of 10 fish, using scopex squid. Lee just missed out on the Roll Of Honour his biggest fish for the stay was a respectable 49lb 6oz Common, bit more bait and that’s a 50lb next week!

Andy Rotherham, in the Gables, had a haul of 11 fish, up to the 40lb mark, all taken on the Cell or A-8 boilies. Glyn Rotherham next door in Herbies Hole had a total of 8 again up to 40lbs, yet again on the Cell and A-8. Paul Minshull-Wilde The Bay (that corner swim doesn’t get fished much) Paul managed to winkle out a 8 fish catch, again with fish up-to 40lb on The Cell and A-8.

Jack Howden Ladies Lair had 7 fish, again up to the 40lb mark on the good old A-8 and Pineapple, that could be the hi-viz pineapple pop-ups or the DreamLake Specials, I'm not sure!! Tom Newsham the Slope ended the week with 10 carp, on a blend of Nosh or The Cell. Scott McCready in the Cherries had 6 fish up to 40lb’s on the Quid – Scopex combo. Must move on.

Lake 2 the conditions certainly slowed up the action from last week.
Roger Meire peg 10, had a total of 14 carp including a 42lb mirror and a 44lb 8 oz common, all taken on the DreamLake Specials. Roger booked the day before when his other holiday venue had driven him to, was nothing like he had been lead to believe. Like they used to say on ‘Hill Street Blues’ (be careful out there).

Shaun Copeland peg 20, also took 14 carp on the session, on a mix of Cell, A-8, Plum Shellfish and plastic!!

Kevin Dobson peg 28, ended up the week with 10 fish on The Cell and Pineapple pop-up’s. John Partington peg 4, had half a dozen carp up to 37lb 8oz’s on The DreamLake Special’s Tiger Nut boilies.

Shaun Copland Mid-30lb Common DL2

Martin Bartel peg 26, had a 39lb mirror and one of those pocket rocket grass carp of 40lbs on the Cell and D.L.Specials. Cannot mention you all lads I’m sorry, so it’s on to Lakes 3, 4, 5.

I’ll start on Lake 3.
Greame Hale peg 10, had 16 carp out including 2x40’s of 44lb and a 46lb-12oz both commons all taken on the Cell.

Mark Payne peg 2, had a total of 10 carp for the week up to 39lbs a mirror (for a change) on the Cell or Active-8.

Scott Boag peg 14, had 6 fish up to 43lbs again on either the Cell or the Active-8.

“Barty” in peg 11, had a total of 16 fish as well, for the session, in amongst his chunky 30lb+ mirrors he managed to angle out a new P.B. common of 47lbs-10ozs, all taken on the Cell.

Lake 4
Ken Head was Top Rod with 19 fish up to 38lbs on the Active-8 and Cell combo.

Finally over to Lake 5
Simon Pitcher peg 1, also had a 19 fish haul and topped off the session with one of those monster cats 104lbs to be precise, even they seem to like the Cell.

Len Baldwin peg 6, and James Walker peg 7, had 9 and 10 fish hauls on the D.L.S Pineapple boilies.

Carl and Peter Baldwin both had 10 fish each and both had 40’s as well, mirrors in fact on the ever trusty Mainline Cell.

Bailiff's Diary: Week 14
w/e 3rd July 2009

Weather-wise really really hot all week. Weds and Thurs 33 degrees. Lake 2 responded really well to the heat and to a fair amount of bait as well. Lots of action both night and day. Many photos this week taken on camera phones. This week the guys will email them to the office for you. Ordered a card reader now for the phones! Bags and sticks also working well. There’s been a few more good grass carp out again. They were a good bunch of lads, went home well happy!!

Let’s start off on Lake 2, again two “Top Bombing” awards this week, with 2 lads on 45 carp each. Chris Stuart peg 15 had a total catch of 45 fish up to 40lb’s, plus a couple of mid 30lb grassies, all fell to the Cell. Nathan Scudder peg 7 also had a 45 fish catch with 16 x 30’s the best 40lbs, and a 41lb grass carp as well, seems they like the hot weather too.

Note:- I write this report on Fri evening to send home Sat morning, so a lot of these guys may well catch a few more fish (Friday night) before they pack up, if any one does catch a 50lber could they let the office know to update the 50’s “Roll of Honour” Cheers, Matt.

Steve Fensome Peg 20, ended the week with a haul of 37 carp. Loads of big 30’s the top weight a common of 41lb-8ozs. Steve was using the Cell and a Solar Bait.

Tom Larner Peg 16, that’s the big double at the far end of the lake. Tony’s total of 33 carp was once again taken on the Cell.

Richard Barnard Peg 12, had a total of 24 carp for his efforts for the week. Sadly no monsters but 16 x 30’s made up for that though, again all caught on the Cell.

To be honest everyone on Lake 2 this week was on the Cell or Active-8, and they all hauled!

Neil Forest Peg 18 caught 23 carp, the best up to 40lb’s all on the Cell or Active-8.

Ian Forest Peg 17 was just behind with a respectful catch of 22 carp, again on either Cell or Active-8.

Chris Linford Peg 23, had a catch of 26 carp the biggest for the session being a well earned mirror of 47lb 4ozs. Chris had all of his fish on the Active-8.

Paul Darvil Peg 30 also had 26 carp on Cell.

George Lock Peg 14 (pictured right) caught 18 carp up to a 48lb common, then rounded off the week with a 52lb common, all taken on the Active-8.

I could go on to mention everyone on 2, they all did well, but I’m running out of time and paper, so I’ll have to rush through on Lakes 3, 4 and 5.

Top rod on Lake 3 was a certain Oliver Eves Peg 13, who winkled out a 48lb 2oz mirror, then had a 64lb 8oz common pick up his Cell hook baits. Again most of the anglers on the Cell boilies. The lakes fished slower than hoped in the heat, but most caught 40’s.

Jamie Skellam Peg 15 did however winkle out a rather nice 54lb 8ozs common, to make the effort in the heat worth while! So everyone caught at least, and on to 4 and 5.

Adam Hall on peg 1 on 5 had a total of 20 carp up to mid forties, on B5 and the Cell.

A few chunky cats were caught as well; if you could please leave the keep nets we will transfer them to one of our stock ponds out of the way. Thanks guys!!

Lake 1 was rather quiet as we had a party miss the trip, but one of Zen’s old mates George Cansdale, Zen fished with him since the 70’s, George opted to drop into the Beach swim, because it's big, flat and comfy and close to the lodge, being a lazy sod that he is.

George just fished close in, when the impulse took him that is, but his laid back approach still produced 25 carp, 10x20’s, 10x30's and 2x43lb+ mirrors all taken on Cell boilies, chopped in bags or fished as stringers.

See you next week lads,
Matt
