Diary: April 2010
w/e 30th April
Lovely weather again this
week for us warmish nights of 8-11 degrees and mainly sunny
days 20-24 degrees, the winds were warm, but changeable.
I’ll start the week
on Lake 1, the lads here did
really well, they phoned the office to all come back together
next year, by mid-week
they were up to almost 40x40’s and a few 50’s
as well, in fact this weeks “Top
Bombin” award
goes to John Merritt who fished
the “Beach”,
this swim normally does well in the summer as you can easily
fish the top of the bar at 20-30yds range John did well
getting so many fish early on though.

John Merritt 44.4lb Common DL1 |
 |
Lake
1, Top Bombin was
<<< John Merritt John’s total of 43 carp consisted
of
14x30’s
and topped of with 6x40’s, 41lb-1oz, 42lb-2oz, 42lb-4oz, 45lb-13ozs and
a 44lb-4oz that was the commons and a lone mirror of 43lbs-13ozs. John took all
his fish on either New Grange and the Cell, 30kg in total managed to keep the
fish in the area.
|
| |
Dave
Faulkener >>> “West Point” took
21 fish, again topped by some nice 40’s, 2
at the 40lbs plus 2 others of 44lbs and a rather
chunky
48lber,
Dave used just 12kgs of Matrix or the Cell.
Ian
Sevace >>> “Pads” only
had 5 fish but at least 3 of them were over 40lbs
though, including 2x40lb Commons and a 40lb+ Mirror
on the Cell, yet again!! |
 |

Dave Faulkner 44.3lb Common DL1 |
| |

Paul 'Crusha' Butcher 52lb Common DL1 |
 |
<<<
Paul Butcher “Chimneys” took
an 11 fish catch just the one 40lber plus a bonus
50 of
52lbs a Common,
Paul was using the Cell boilies, and got through
just 6kgs of bait for the week.
Alan
Grainger >>> set up in the “Snags” at the far end
of the lake, obviously the carp were longer up this
end
of the lake this week in the same numbers as before,
however Alan still managed to winkle out a 10 fish
tally, the best a 41lb Mirror, taken on the New Grange. |
| |
Ricky
Barden “Eastbar” had
an 8 fish bag taken on 13kgs of Cell, no monsters in
this catch, just fish up to 39lbs!!!! |
| |
Steve
Butcher >>> in the “Slope” had
that unlucky 13 fish catch but luckily for Steve
that
did include
3x40’s a 45lber and
Sue
Butcher >>> (take it that’s
the Missus?) had 2x40’s of 46lb-14ozs and another
of 47lb-10ozs, that one a Mirror, to round of the
trip Steve had the biggest from Lake 1 this week
in the shape of a 57lb-8ozs Mirror. Steve used just
10kg of the New Grange.
|
 |

Sue Butcher 47.10lb Mirror DL1 |
| |
Brian
Ross in “3 Steps”,
took an 11 fish haul Brian’s another of our regulars,
he’s been with us for the last 10 -11 years,
Brian used an Active-8 pop-up to take his fish which
included a further 3x40lbers. |
| |

Martin Starkey 49.2lb Common DL1 |
 |
<<<
Martin Starkey in the “Deer Dip” had
7 fish, the best however just short of the 50lb mark
a Common
of 49lbs-2ozs all taken on just 5kgs of the Cell.

M Blowers next door in peg 16 used the same tactics Cell and Corn to take fish up to 44lbs, a Mirror in fact.
Pat Kiley peg 30 had a 15 fish haul, which if I’m reading the report right tells me Dan also had 3 x
30lb+ grass carp included in his haul, 31lb, 34lbs and 35lbs these things take of like rockets then fight even harder when they are in the net, so Beware!! Danny was also on the Cell.
Lee Pearson >>> peg 24 used a combo of Cell and Red fish to take a 24 fish haul, 30’s up to 39lbs (Commons) 36lbs Mirrors an37lb
grassie and a brace of 40lbers.

 |
<<<
Perry May and Dad Ken set
up in the big double peg 9 and 10.
Ken managed to winkle
out a respectable catch of 9 fish with the best a

Perry on the other hand showed the “old man” how
to do it with a catch of 14 fish, just over half
were over 30lbs, Commons up to 37lbs, plus a brace
of Mirrors up to 39lbs, then really rubbed it in

Bailiff's
Diary: April 2010
w/e 23rd April
Well at last we’ve
had some half decent weather this week, and the fishing
improved along with it!! Changeable winds, lead to warmish
nights 5-7 degrees with highs of 23-24 during the day,
basically it was nice sunny
weather.
The lads took most of our
advice on board, opting for accurate baiting and spodding,
the bags and sticks (of ground boilies) all produced with
pop-ups and Zigs on Lake 1. Great weather, Great Bunch!!
We saw some good catches
this week as the lakes all came alive at once, it's (Friday
evening now) and I’ve counted up the reports and
we are currently on 74 x 40’s and 8 x 50’s
for the week.
The “Top
Bombing” award
goes to Gavin Hammond >>> over
on Lake 5 with his haul of 45 carp, not often Lake 5 does
the most!!

Common, plus 2 x 50lb+ Cats as well.
Ashley
Phillips peg
5 took a total of 20 carp, all on the Cell, but didn’t
write down any of his fishes weights, which doesn’t
really help me!! |
| |
Lake
3 Top Rod this week was Paul
Crowder >>> peg 14
with his catch of 28 carp all taken on the Cell,
Paul’s catch inc. 8 x 30’s up to 39lbs

Bailiff's
Diary: April 2010
w/e 16th April
The weather is gradually
improving, the nights were a bit warmer than the previous
weeks 6-8 degrees on average at night and highs of 18 degrees
during the day, air pressure of 1025mb didn’t help,
as well as a nippy North Easterly wind. However some of
the lads did rather well the “Snags” on Lake
1 did 54 fish, Lake 3’s best a 22 Catch Lake 4 finally
turned on this week, with a 24 fish catch for one angler,
(we prefer the weeks when everyone does well.)
In general then bags, sticks
and spodding chopped boilies on Lake 2, Lake 1 try Zigs
and pop-ups as well. 3 - 4 - 5 fished well up to
mid week but slowed up Thurs and Friday. It’s getting
better, the weather's getting warmer, everything’s
getting better.
On the bright side, despite
the ups and downs of the fishing, we have got to say we
have had a terrific bunch of lads every week, who know
the score, and are full of praise for our help and advice,
the meals, even the cleanliness of the place, that’s
where we get our buzz”” Thanks lads.
Lake 2
Two lads shared top honours on “2” this week;
at the time of writing (Friday Afternoon) they are both
on 16 fish each.

Colin Warnock 50lb Common DL2 |

boilies, just 6kgs of them!
Dave

not
put
down their
weights
on the form sadly however he did say he caught them
on Malarky boilies!!

Bailiff's
Diary: April 2010
w/e 10th April
The weather again this week
was very similar to the conditions back-home. Generally overcast
with plenty of wind, temperatures were now seasonal, down
to 2 degrees at nights and an average of just 12 degrees
during the day.
Tactic wise, its hard to see
any form of patterns emerging as we are only into the 2nd
week, but just with the weather conditions alone light baiting
is highly recommended, what did best for this last week,
it was pop-ups or balanced baits producing on Lakes 1 and
2, zigs of all things on Lake 3, and of course anglers using
the sticks or bags in their set-ups were producing the most
fish, again the Cell and a 10mm Hi-Viz pop-up, white-milky
toffee, or the yellow pineapple topped boilies just perfectly
balances an 18mm Cell boilie it seems!!
I'll start on Lake
1 this week. Steve Blanschard “Chimneys” winkled
out a catch of 11 fish, with fish up to 39lbs-8ozs using
just 7kg of the Cell for the week.

John Harper 40lb Mirror DL1 |
 |
<<<
John Harper “Slope” had
7 fish up to 40lbs a mirror I believe it was, again
7kg mix of New Grange and Cell.
Lee
Blows >>> in the “Unknown” had
unlucky 13 fish, luckily the best a 40lb mirror though
again the New Grange and Milky Toffee pop-up doing
the honors for Lee, again just 3.5kg of Grange was
used. |
| |
Lee
Nicholson “Deer Dip” had 8 fish
out including a brace of mirrors both over 40lbs,
40lb-2ozs and one of 44lbs-2ozs, Lee’s fish
fell to the Hi-Viz pop-up and boilie combo, New Grange
boilie and a 10mm Milky Toffee pop-up! Lee used
3kg of New Grange.
Tony
Parker tried either
side of the lake, “East Bar”, then a move
to the “West Point” still the effort paid
off in the shape of a 7 fish bag all taken on (I hope
this ain't a wind-up) Red Indians, 5th Element,
(is that a bait or a film with Bruce Willis in it?)
Simon
Walkden “Cherries” simply loved the
place he only had a few fish up to 43lbs-13ozs no word
on his bait though!! |
| |
Steve
McFarlane >>> “Snags” had
half a dozen fish including a brace of 40’s
both Commons of 42lbs and 44lbs-13ozs, using 6kgs
of Cell and Scopex boilies.
Harry “Chopper” Millward
>>> aged
just 12, was also in the Cherries, he had a few nice
fish out for a young’un carp wise
a 41lber a Common the best, and a 72lb Catfish, and
I know how they fight; Harry again was on the Cell. |
 |

Steve McFarlane 42lb Common DL1 |
| |

James Millward 53lb Common DL1 |
 |
<<<
James Millward in the “3 Steps” had
10 fish inc. 6 x 30’s up to 38lbs then a Common
of 45lbs-5ozs on the Cell, then just before packing
up time on Sat morning, he popped into the main lodge
to tell me he’d just caught a 53lb Common,
luckily I still had time to down load his camera
and add it to his catch report form, remember lads “it
ain’t over till that fat bloke sings.”
|
| |
Steve
Allington in the “Hornets” took a catch
of 14 fish, 7 x 30’s no weights mentioned and
a 40lb+ Common, again no weights mentioned, however
he did fill in the bait bit, and as you can imagine,
he was yet another lad on the Cell, again 5kg used,
a sensible amount.
P.S Talk about a change
of luck the good old Arsenal got their arses kicked,
still least it was Messi (and not Drogba) I think
the worst thing we did was Bendtner scoring that
seemed to fire them up a bit!!! |
| |
Paul
Brindle >>> “Gables” using
the Nash Peach just 2kgs had a brace of 40’s;
just 40’s
is what is written down.
John
Welsh >>> “Kingfishers” had
5 up to 45lb-3ozs on the Cell.
Lake 2
Jason Connolly Swim 11,
8 then 16, he moved about a bit, all for 5 fish up
to 39lbs-16ozs. Jason used
the Cell and Grange combo, also fishing with Jason
was Billy Hammett and Rael Bojko.
Rael’s over there
doing a bit of rehab on his legs, after one of his
thick as .... mates pushed him through a shop
window, he’s lucky to still be alive!! |
 |

Paul Brindle 40lb Common DL1 |
| |

Bill Hammett 46lb Common DL2 |
 |
Bill
and Rael doubled up in swims 9 and 10. Rael
went on to catch 11 fish (so he claims) up to 42lbs,
and
Billy had just 10 inc. 5 x 30’s and the 46lb-8oz
Common due to the fact there was money and bets involved
Bill reckons Rael only had 9 out, you know the saga!!!
Don’t
do it lads, bet on the biggest!! Rael and Bill were
using the New Grange and the Cell,
probably made by Rael, as he works at Mainline!! |
| |
Roy
Marsh “23” took an 8 fish catch on the
Cell, half of which were over 30lbs mirrors of 37lbs
and 35lbs and a brace of 38lb Commons.
Paul
Allison “22” took
a seven fish haul on a combination of Aviator wafters,
Cell and New Grange, just 10kgs.
Fred
Ledger “peg
27” winked out a 15 fish haul 6 x 30’s
plus and a best of 47lbs-1ozs a Common in fact. (Fred
ledgered his Cell boilies. I had to say that!!
Dave
Millburn “peg
6” had 7 out, again including a nice brace of
40’s, 43lbs-10ozs and a 46lbs-12ozs on 6 kg of
the Cell.
|
| |
| Kevin
Woodruff >>> “peg 7” had
a bakers dozen (13) inc. a Common of 43lbs -4ozs
and a Mirror
of 46lbs on the Cell.
Dean
Taylor >>> “20” had
a few as well the best nearly made it onto the “Roll
Of Honour” a mirror of 49lbs-8ozs on Nashys
Squid. Chris
Young “peg 5” had a 9 fish catch
on the Cell and plastic corn combo.
Mitch
Palmer “pegs 19 and 26” ended
the week with a 10 fish catch on DTs Fish n Blood.
Barry
Young >>> “peg 4” also
caught 15 fish again on the Cell. |
 |

Dean Taylor 49lb Mirror DL2 |
| |

Chris Breffit 39lb 12oz Common DL2 |
 |
<<<
Chris Breffit >>> “peg 3” had a dozen for the week, using Cell and plastic
corn, and just 5kg of Cell freebies.
Lakes
3 4 and 5
Lake 5 first, the
lakes 4 and 5 are yet to really come alive, they
will when that bleeding weather warms up!!
On the Cell and
DL Specials was Lewis
Wellington who took an 8 fish catch
from “peg 3” again (no weights).
Mike Jackson and
Dave Jackson in “pegs
6-7” winkled out a few between them, no
monsters though on their Spicy Tuna baits. |
| |
Mark
Wellington >>> “peg 1” had
just 3 fish including 2 x 40lbers, both Mirrors
but
no weights
entered on the form though Mark was on the Cell
and DL Specials.
Lake
4 was slower
than most this week, we had two husband and wife
combos on there this week.
Andy
Morgan >>> did the
best with 7 fish up to 44lbs-4ozs a Mirror
on the Cell, 5kgs.
Diane
Whinn just
2 on the Cell and Plum Mainline flavour.
Ian and Carol
Maudsley also struggled and ended up
with just 3 I’m sad to say.
Lake 3
Matt Wess “peg 15” took an
11 fish catch on his Trent baits (10kgs) inc. a brace of 40’s
as well, both 42lbs-5ozs and 45lbs-12ozs. |
 |

Mark Wellington DL5 |
| |

Dan Newman 51lb Common DL3 |
 |
<<<
Dan Newman “peg2” had
7 out this week, God he did OK 4 x 40’s
2 x 40lb Mirrors of 42lb-8ozs and 42lbs then
Commons of 41lbs and 44lbs, then rounded them
off with a Common of 51lbs-8ozs, on the Cell
and Pulse.
Mark
Owen >>> peg “3-7” took
5 fish up to 43lbs. Mark used Cell boilies
topped with the New Grange pop-ups, just 5kg
that bait combo covers all the bases. |
| |
Gary
Cottam, Gary and his 2 boys have been regulars
for a long time, I think this was their first
trip on 3, can’t be sure as they are here
a bit, Dad Gary in Peg 12 took a 7 fish catch
inc. 2 x 40’s of 43lbs and 49lbs on Premier
baits.
Craig
Cottam 18yrs
in Peg 9 had 6 out on the Premier baits, the
Adam >>> who’s
16yrs now, had an 8 fish catch which inc. 2
x 40’s
of 41lbs-3ozs and a 47lbs-7ozs Common, then topped
it of with
a Common just over the magical 50lbs barrier, again
on Premier baits. |
 |

Gary Cottom 49lb Mirror DL3 |
| |

Kev Goodey 41lb Mirror DL3 |
 |
Kev
Goodey “peg
5” had 5 inc. 3 x 40’s all Commons
on his CCMoore baits.
Let’s hope
the weather warms up now, and then we’ll
see a change in the sport!!
Till next week
Best regards, Matt |
