Bailiff's Diary: August 2010
w/e 20th August

What a start to the week!! Sun, Mon, and Tues saw heavy rain, easing up on Tuesday, it was going to be make or break, would the Lakes kick off after the rain? Or would it be the “kiss of Death”??? The lads pulled it out of the bag, the latter half of the week made up for the damp weather, it fished its head off, and we had the last few days of summer weather.

There was a good amount of fish all round, concentrating beds of bait is really paying off now!! Bags and sticks (of crumbled boilies) on Lakes 1 and 2. Single hookbaits did well (as ever) on Lake 3 (one lad caned it!! More from him later.) Pop-ups and snowmen or critically balanced hookbaits, keep the rigs simple and your hooks sharp!!

Mick Siwecki 53.2lb Common DL1

Lake 1
“Top Rod” on Lake 1 was <<< Mick Siwecki >>> who set up in the “Snags” Mick ended the week with a haul of 40 fish including 17 x 30’s, 3 x 40lbers a 46lb common and 2 x 40lb mirrors of 40lbs and 47lb – 10ozs then rounded off the catch with one of the many 50’s in Lake 1, this one went 53lbs – 2ozs. Mick used a blend of Cell and New Grange, 16kg lasted the week!!

Sean Kibbler in the “Ladies Lair” had a dozen out on 10kgs of Cell.

<<< Chrissie Waring in the “Cherries” caught 14 fish on a mix of Cell or Spicy Chicken, Chrissies best a lovely common that tipped the scales at 56lbs – 8ozs all on just 6kg of bait.

Henry Ward in the “Bailiffs” had a best of 41lbs on the Cell.

Simon Noble next door in the “Beach” had 4 up to 42lbs.

As if that was not enough ‘our Dave’ then went on to have a new personal best common of 57lbs – 10ozs, well done mate!! Dave used 25kg of Cell and just 5kg of New Grange.

Dave Garner 57.10lb The Long Common DL1

Trev Peachment 44.6lb Common DL1

<<< Trev Peachment didn’t put down the swim he fished!!! Had a 26 fish haul, also on the Cell/Grange combo. Trev’s best went 44lbs on just 18kgs of bait.

This weeks “Top Bombin” award goes to <<< Paul Manning >>> with a catch of 47 fish from peg 14.

Despite having no action for the first few days, cos of the rain, Paul still put in nigh on 10kg of bait each day, then for the last 4 days it really kicked off for Paul. One day alone yielded 19 fish including 3 x 40’s or 43lbs – 43lbs and 41lbs, plus commons of 53lbs and the top prize for 3 the biggie at 71lbs – 6ozs on his premier baits.

Bailiff's Diary: August 2010
w/e 7th August

The weather was not too good this week, warm, slightly unsettled with changeable winds!! Apart from the mid-week thunder storm.

We had Joe Morgan over for a few days doing a spot of filming for “Carp TV” the DVD magazine, it’s so much easier when you can watch it rather than read it!! That’s what we thought too!! So we got them to stay on, after doing their piece with Rael and put together a Dreamlakes DVD brochure. Zen as ever was lost for words!! Barty came over as a bigger “drama queen” than that prat Louie Spence, but everything went really well, helped no end by the great bunch of lads on the lakes again this week.

Typically Lake 1 was a bit temperamental with the majority of fish holed up down the “Snags” arm, with no great change in the weather to shift them out, and the lads fishing the arm were clever in not spooking them out either. As much as the rest of the lads hate you for it, well done!!

Dave Hodgson 40.8lb Common DL1

Lake 1
Top Rod on 1 this week was shared with 28 fish each by Dave Hodgson and Fred Barber. Fred fished the ‘Chimneys’ and Dave in the ‘Slope’.

<<< Dave’s best a brace of commons going 40lbs and 41lbs on 20kg of Cell, likewise Fred >>> used 40kg of bait also, the Cell.

Rael Bojko >>> in ‘Sunset’ did well catching mainly at night as the fish ventured out of the West arm onto the bar, Rael landed a total of 22 fish up to 51lbs-1oz an hour before the film crew turned up, as luck would have it, Rael used just 15kg of Cell.

Jason Elles 44.8lb Common DL1

Rael’s dear old Dad Zen was in the ‘Eastbar’ struggling as ever, still he did manage an even dozen (12) with a brace of 40lbers thrown in they went 43lbs-6ozs and 41lbs, Zen used 10kg of the Cell.

Dean Brinn, ‘Hornets’ went just one better with 13, using 30kgs of Cell.

Sascha Dicks 41lb Common DL1

<<< Sascha Dicks ‘3 Steps’ took a total of 12 fish as well up to 41lbs on Cell.

Paul Darvill >>> ‘Beach’ – ‘Cherries’ started off in the ‘Beach’, then decided on a move onto the end of the West Arm, which turned out well for him, as he went on to land 13 fish, including 3 x 40lbers of 41lbs, 42lbs-12ozs and a 49lber which we got on film!! Paul used 15kg of the Cell, other than that it was a bit of a grueller.

Things were much better all round on Lake 2

This weeks “Top Bombin” award goes to none other than that unstoppable Dave Manning >>> who set up in 16 and first thing put in 25kg of bait in a do or die effort to get the fish on his bait. He ended the week with a 57 fish catch, Dave’s best a 42lb Common.
